The subject aims to enable learners to “acquire and apply essential business knowledge, skills and principles to productively and profitably conduct business in changing business environments and to create business opportunities, creatively solve problems and take risks, respecting the rights of others and environmental sustainability”
Business Studies covers topics such as the business environment, business ventures, the role of business in society and business operation.
The course should prove useful in preparing learners to pursue careers in business and be entrepreneurs. It should also provide a foundation for further studies in business management.
The subject is included in the Selborne curriculum to provide for boys who do not have the figure skills required by Accounting, but still have an interest in the commercial world.

Accounting
The subject aims to teach the discipline of communicating, analysing and interpreting financial information in order to make informed and appropriate financial decisions.
Financial Accounting: Recording of transactions as well as the analysis, interpretation and communication of financial statements.
Managerial Accounting: Costing and budgeting
Managing resources: Internal controls, internal audit processes and a code of ethics.
The subject is useful preparation for any commerce course. Future careers in the accounting or management fields are possible. The subject will also prove useful to learners who intend to run their own business in the future.
