The 147 candidates in the class of 2009 produced good results in the NSC examinations. All but one member of the class passed. The most pleasing aspect of the results was that a record 85% of the class passed at the level required for admission to a bachelor’s degree course. There were 174 subject distinctions of which 47 were for Mathematical Literacy, 32 for History, 25 for Life Orientation, 25 for Mathematics, 15 for Geography, 15 for Accounting, 8 for Life Sciences, 7 for Engineering Graphics and Design, 4 for English and 3 for Afrikaans. There were only 4 subject failures in the entire grade. 100% pass rates were achieved in all the languages, Mathematics, Mathematical Literacy, Life Orientation, Accounting, EGD and History. Subject averages achieved by the class were healthy, with Mathematical Literacy (80%), History (73%), EGD (71%), Life Orientation (69%), Mathematics, Geography and Accounting (all 67%) leading the way. The average for isiXhosa was 66%, Life Sciences 62% and English 60%. Afrikaans and Physical Science both produced averages of 54%, while the Information Technology average was 44%.Ashley Myburgh and Nicholas Wiltshire both achieved distinctions in 7 of their 8 subjects, while Callan Hattingh did so in 6. There were also 2 candidates who achieved 5 and 7 who achieved 4 distinctions. The best individual subject mark was the 99% achieved by Wesley Field in Mathematical Literacy.
