2010 Cape Schools Golf Results:

During the extended June holidays Selborne embarked on their annual Cape Schools Golf Trip.  For the first time we did not visit the picturesque Knysna area.  This year we played at the St Francis Links, the St Francis Bay and Eerste River Golf Estate.  Unfortunately the wind and rain had the final say on the last day of our tour and the matches against Wynberg and SACS were incomplete so we called the game 4 ½ - 4 ½ .  We beat Rondebosch 6 ½ - 2 ½ earlier in the week.

The team members were: Timothy Banks, Justin Godfrey, Matthew Schrier, Keanu Brittnell, Roy Goby and Christopher Wicks.

Selborne drew against Wynberg     4½ - 4½.
Selborne drew against SACS         4½ - 4½.
Selborne beat Rondebosch            6½ - 2½.

2009 Golf Season:

1stgolfThe results of this year’s Golf Team have not been as successful as teams in the past, but the boys playing definitely had just as much fun. The format of our local league has changed making the boys play off their handicaps so it has really evened out the schools when playing matches. In the local league, wins were recorded against Stirling, Development Team and Port Rex.

Derby Day results were Losses against Grey High 2-8 and Grey College 2½ - 3½ Roy Gobey, Chadd Drake and Tristan Pringle were chosen to represent the Border Junior Golf Foundation in the U14 age group at the Interprovincial Tournament at Fish River Sun during April.

The Cape Schools’ Festival held in the picturesque Knysna region at the Goose Valley, Plettenberg Bay and Knysna Golf Courses with a stopover at the St Francis links on the way to Knysna was a wonderful week. Players; Timothy Banks, Josha Linde, Matthew Schrier, Justin Godfrey, Craig Collett, David Mager, Dylan Lees and Michael Bradfield narrowly lost in all three of their matches against Rondebosch 4-5, SACS 4-5and Wynberg 3-6. I would like to thank Mr Ashmead for taking the boys and Mr and Mrs Heffer for once again letting us use their home.

The Sun City trip had four new caps in Banks, Linde, Schrier and Godfrey and they quickly found out how tough it really was up in Polokwani. The team came 28th out of 32 teams. We congratulate Timothy Banks on winning this year’s Katberg Junior Championships.

The following boys were selected for an Interprovincial Tournament at Katberg during October:
U18: Timothy Banks, Joshua Linde and Fred Clarke
U14: Chadd Drake, Roy Gobey and Tristan Pringle

The following Awards were presented:
Colours: Timothy Banks
First Team: Craig Collett, Justin Godfrey, Joshua Linde, Matthew Schrier
