We started the season off with the successful organization of the Grade 8 athletics, where a number of promising athletes emerged from this meeting. Malcomess came tops in this event by winning it with 82 points followed by Fuller with 67 points. Out of this meeting emerged the core of the team that went on to win the U14 Sammy Gunn Shield in the Eastern Cape and Border High Schools’ Competition in Port Elizabeth. Robert Lyons emerged tops in this group by breaking long-standing records in the Selborne Inter-house meeting, the Sammy Gunn Shield as well as in the Cradock Top Ten. Border Athletics organized a number of meetings this year where a vast number of Selborne athletes competed. Once again, getting results from these competitions was a nightmare. Selborne did well by having 20 athletes representing East London at the East London District Competition. We were well represented in the Amathole District Championships where first places went to the following Selborne athletes:U19 Division
Ofentse Boloko - 100m (10.72s);
Anaso Jobodwana - 200m (21.65s);
Camble Kidson - Shot Put (12.74m) and Discus (34.50m);
Richard Osner – Javelin (49.14s)
U17 Division
Ncincilili Titi - 100m (10.97s) and 200m (22.63s);
Damien Ward - Pole Vault (2.70m)
U15 Division

Robert Lyons – Shot Put (14.89m) and Discus (39.95m);
Cwenga Mqingwana - 300m Hurdles (45.00s) and 100m Hurdles (16.70s)
Anaso Jobodwana and Ncincilili Titi went on to represent Border at the SA Schools’ Championships in Gauteng where both did very well. During the third term, the Inter-house Athletics was a great success with many promising athletes emerging who were consequently selected to compete in the Triangular Meeting. Rees won the trophy in the end with 159 points. Other results were second – Malcomess (142.5 point), third – Fuller (100.5); fourth tied – Perry and Crewe (82). New records in 2010 were R Lyons in Discus with a throw of 42.4m and Milani Lubelwana in the High Jump with a height of 1.80m.
Selborne College then took part in the annual Triangular Athletics meeting involving Queen’s and Dale in East London. Selborne came second in this competition. A team was chosen from the Triangular Team to represent Selborne College in the annual Hirsch Shield Competition in Port Elizabeth. In the U14 division. Selborne won the shield with first places to the following athletes: Robert Lyons (record throws in the shot put and discus); Cameron Grassi in the 1500m; Milani Lubelwana in the high jump and Usiphile Mpetsheni in the 800m. We came fourth in the SF Edwards Shield (U16 division) and the Hirsch Shield (U19 division). In the U19 division, Ncincilili Titi equalled both records in the 100m and 200m events. Selborne selected a team to represent the school at the annual Cradock Top Ten Athletics Meeting in Cradock, where our team came third in the competition with 7925 points.
